A student from GRE and 3 GRE Alumni members won all of the poster prizes at the 28th Annual Molecular Biology of Cancer Meeting, held on 12-14 December 2011 at the University of Warwick. This year’s meeting entitled, Genes and Cancer Meeting 2011 focused in particular on the identification of the genetic lesions and signalling pathways/molecules that contribute to the ontogeny of cancer, and which are accessible to therapeutic intervention strategies.

Fungi may be an unexpected ally in efforts to keep hazardous lead contamination under wraps. That’s based on the unexpected discovery by researchers at the College of Life Sciences that fungi can transform lead into its most stable mineral form. The findings, reported in the journal Current Biology, suggest that this interaction between fungi and lead may be occurring in nature anywhere the two are found together. It also suggests that the addition or encouragement of fungi may be a useful treatment strategy for lead polluted sites.

This four day dissection course with a wide faculty comprising ENT, Endocrine surgery, OMFS and cardiothoracic disciplines is aimed at higher trainees and Consultants who have an interest in Head and Neck and facial-plastic surgery. The course aims to address both the theoretical and surgical aspects of Head and Neck surgery with major emphasis on decision making before and during surgery.
