Dundee is best in the UK in Biological Sciences research according to the QS World University Rankings. Research assessment in terms of citations per paper - the most commonly used general measure of quality and impact - rates Biological Sciences at Dundee Number 1 in the UK and Number 9 in the world. This also places Dundee at the top of the league of Universities outside the United States.

Citations per paper is one of the best and most widely used criteria for judging research excellence, used by scientists themselves and by national and international funding bodies. This year the College of Life Scienceswas also awardeda Regius Professorship in Life Sciences by the Queen, a rare privilegethat reflects the exceptionally high quality of teaching and research in this field at The University of Dundee.
