A paper co-authored by Professors Kate Storey and Jason Swedlow has won the BioMed Central’s 6th Annual Research Award in the category for Neuroscience, Neurology and Psychiatry.

Dr. Vicky Cowling, MRC Career Development Fellow in the Division of Cell Signalling and Immunology has been awarded tenure at the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee. Victoria Cowling graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University with a BA in Natural Sciences and went on to do her doctoral research with Julian Downward and Gerard Evan at Cancer Research UK laboratories in London.

The Wellcome Trust has awarded a grant of £800,000 in support of structural biology and drug discovery in the College of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee. The grant has allowed the installation of new X-ray diffraction equipment and a robotic sample changer. The new equipment is for research in single crystal X-ray diffraction, which is the most powerful technique for revealing accurate three-dimensional molecular structures.

The College of Life Sciences Innovator of the Year Award for 2012 has been jointly won by two postdoctoral researchers. Dr Richard Bickerton of the Hopkins Lab won for his innovation Quantitative Estimate of Druggability and Dr Ayaz Najafov of the Alessi Lab won for his inn
