    Two microbiologists from the University of Dundee have been honoured for their work with prestigious awards from the Society for General Microbiology. Professor Geoff Gadd and Dr Nicola Stanley-Wall, both of the Division of Molecular and Environmental Microbiology in the College of Life Sciences at Dundee, have been awarded the Colworth Prize and the Fleming Medal respectively, two of the Society’s top awards.

    Two PIs from the Division of Molecular and Environment Microbiology in the College of Life Sciences have received prestigious awards from the Society for General Microbiology (SGM).  Dr. Nicola Stanley-Wall has been awarded the 2009 Fleming Prize in recognition of her outstanding research on the molecular basis of biofilm formation.

    The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, which rates the research quality of all UK Universities across the full range of academic disciplines, reached its culmination this week with the publication of the results. The College of Life Sciences was ranked ahead of all other universities in Scotland and is one of the UK's top 5 universities in the category of Biological Sciences among 51 other universities, ahead of Cambridge and Imperial College with, Oxford, Manchester and Sheffield just ahead of us.

This inaugural award recognises the work of outstanding science communicators at the College of Life Sciences towards improving understanding of the work of the College and University to a wider audience.

    The first inaugural meeting of the GRE International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) was held on the 20-21 October this year. An important feature of the Centre has been to set up this Board, which is entrusted with the task of advising the Centre on research, funding and strategies for growth, while also reporting back to the Wellcome Trust on the Centre’s progress.
